08-08-08 is indeed a very 'auspicious" numbers in Chinese community and will only occur once in every 100 years. After all eight in Cantonese means "fatt" has the same sound as "prosperity". China managed to put on stunning display of pageantry and pyrotechnics to open the 2008 Olympic Games at the national Stadium in Beijing. It was depicted as the largest, costliest extravaganza in Olympic history, bookended by barrages of some 30,000 fireworks during a performance that took a 4 billion worldwide audience through 2,000 years of Chinese history (The Star, 9th Aug'08).

Pride of the Nation. The Malaysian contingent, Chef-de-mission, Datuk Ho Koh Chye with flag-bearer Azizul Hasni Awang carrying the Jalur Gemilang taking part in the parade at Opening Ceremony. Malaysia was the number 10th contingent to step into the Bird Nest Stadium as the order of all contingents in the march was based on the number of strokes written for the names of their countries in simplified Chinese character. We wish all athletes the best of luck. Keep the olympic spirit and fire burning in your heart. Read more: http://results.beijing2008.cn/WRM/ENG/Schedule/index.shtml
