With its strong economy and resources, Jiangnan has been a leading region of China for at least a thousand years. Several ancient Chinese Dynasties like Song, Ming and the Kingdom of Wu, started their base in Jiangnan. Emperor Qianlong of Qing Dynasty also made frequent visits to this area. Shanghai (cosmopolitan city) , is one of China's most important cultural, commercial, financial and communications centres. It is also one of the world's busiest ports. Originally a fishing town, it has become in the late 19th and early 20th century, the 3rd largest financial centre in the world and the largest commercial city in the Far East. Popular places visited, The Bund, Nanjing Road and Oriental Pearl Tower.
